BL students are expected to embody the school motto everyday in everything they do, both on and off the field. “If you think about it it’s Esse Quam Videri. That’s what this is about. It’s not about athletics its just the classroom in the afternoon.” Stated Thomas.
Going into the 2018-2019 school year, many changes were made to the way which clubs were presented to the student body. Rather than selecting one study hall to have a club fair, clubs were presented during lunch to the entire student body over the course of one week.
It’s long block on a Friday afternoon. Students are ready for the upcoming football game at 3 p.m.. The student sitting at the front desk is almost fully asleep, while the student in the back of the room is already asleep. The rest of the class is trying to think of a way to wake them both up, and soon the entire class has lost focus.
The Boys’ Latin Upper School holds a variety of assemblies throughout the school year, most of which consists of sitting down in the GAC and listening to speakers. However, Halloween is different. At the Halloween assembly, everyone gets to participate.
The 9:55 bell rings. Morning break has begun. A mass exodus of students head down the hill from the Upper School to the school store, buying bags of chips, M&Ms, sodas, and iced coffees. This journey down the hill to the school store has been a staple in the Boys’ Latin community since the early 1980s.
