HBO’s hit show Game of Thrones has finally returned for its final season after a two-year waiting period. GOT first aired on April 17, 2011 and has since gained millions of followers. Both faculty and students at Boys’ Latin follow the show, and predictions and theories about the newest season have been talked about since 2017. Students and faculty often participate in “watch parties”, where somebody will host a viewing of the new episode and have his/her friends, classmates, co-workers, or family over to watch the new episode.
The Oscars no longer value artistic merit, best exemplified by this year’s Best Picture, Green Book. Last year, the Oscars had the lowest viewership for their main ceremony in 44 years. There are many possible reasons for this: the decline of cable, the perceived “rich people patting themselves on the back” sentiment, but the most likely is the lack of interest and investment in the films being nominated.
Throughout history, people have made new year’s resolutions, which include specific goals that they hope to accomplish in the new year. Within the Boys’ Latin community, students and faculty have taken the initiative of setting their own new year’s resolutions. Given that 2019 is under way, new year’s resolutions are now in full effect. Resolutions may vary from being healthier, saving money, and using less screen time, but they didn’t start out that way.
