It was Tuesday, April 7, 2015, the day of the start of the MIAA season. Boys’ Latin played Calvert Hall at Calvert Hall at 4:00 p.m. The team was coming off a great preseason.
The Lakers were ready to go into the first MIAA game and come out with a big win. The team prepared the whole week and was ready for Calvert Hall.
During the start of the game, BL came out very slow. The defense let Calvert Hall’s Luke Ciccarone score a 16-yard room and time shot 30 seconds into the game. As soon as they scored, BL knew that Calvert Hall came ready to play.
A couple minutes went by and it was still 1-0 in favor of Calvert Hall. Then, attack man Timmy Kelly scored again to make it 2-0 with eight minutes left to go in the 1st quarter. BL’s Devin Shewell and Patrick Spencer scored two goals in a row to tie it up with five minutes to go in the 1st quarter.Both BL and Calvert Hall fought
Both BL and Calvert Hall fought back and forth, and at the end of the 1st quarter it was 4-2 Calvert Hall.
The 2nd quarter started, and BL had to get something going. Calvert Hall’s Timmy Kelly came out and scored right away to make it 5-2.
It wasn’t looking too good for BL. Their hole was getting deeper as they continued to score goals.
BL called a time out to talk things over and get their heads back in the game. BL came out of the time out strong, and Logan Wisnauskas scored the next goal. BL showed a ton of determination and continued to fight.
At the end of the 2nd quarter, it was 9-7 Calvert Hall. BL was feeling more confident about their play and knew they had to come out strong in order to win the game. BL came out of half time scoring a goal by Patrick Spencer to cut the deficit to one.
Then Calvert Hall’s Timmy Kelly fired back and scored. Shortly after, BL answered with a score by Anthony Wyler.
Goals were going back and forth between the two teams. At the end of the 3rd quarter, the score was 14-11 Calvert Hall.
BL dominated the 4th quarter, outscoring them three to one. With goals from Wisnauskas, Spencer, Shewell, BL came very close to winning the game but fell short, losing 15-14.
BL knew as a team that they had to take this loss and build off of it. BL knows they have plenty of games left in the MIAA season, and they have to forget about it and move forward.
