After Dennis Rodman’s controversial trips to North Korea caused an international threat, the NBA Hall of Famer didn’t bother talking to the media. Now Dennis Rodman has gathered up his thoughts and is ready to talk.
Kim Jong Un was sitting down at Turnberry Isle Miami in Aventura, Florida, (www.huffingtonpost.com) when in walked Dennis Rodman. Kim Jong Un eazily recognized Rodman as soon as he saw him. The piercings and tattoos were that of a basketball player he’d watched for years. When Rodman sat down, Kim Jong Un walked over and introduced himself.
When asked what Kim Jong Un’s personality is like, Rodman replied, “When he’s around his people, he’s just like anybody else. He jokes and loves playing basketball, table tennis, pool. They love American ’80s music. They do karaoke to it. He has this 13-piece girls band with violins. He gets a mic and they play the whole time. He loves the Doors and Jimi Hendrix. Oldies. When I first went, the live band only played two songs for four hours: the theme songs from Rocky and Dallas” (http://dujour.com/).
This shows how any normal person can turn out to be a world-hated dictator. Kim Jong does things that the average person does, like playing basketball, table tennis, and pool. Then when he is in front of the world, he tries to put on a persona to make up for North Korea’s lack of power in the past years.
Kim Jong Un’s relationship with Rodman has really done nothing to anyone in the states or North Korea. This is just a friendship, and like any other ordinary friendship, they have common interests and therefore hangout. There was and is no reason for the U.S. to get involved. The country makes Dennis Rodman look like a monster for just being friends with Kim Jong Un.
When asked if Kim Jong Un discussed anything political, Dennis said, “I’ve never told this to anyone, but the last time I was there, they just came out and started saying stuff about what they want from Americans. How they want to rewrite the peace treaty; they want us to get the ships out of South Korea.”
This is what startles Rodman. He never wanted to get caught up in the political tension between the two countries. He hoped that they could just stay friends without this tension, but since one of them is the leader of North Korea, it was bound to happen.
When Dennis Rodman said this, people began to criticize him, saying that he was being un-American to keep that information from the government. Many people think this is a controversial subject because the U.S. is in conflict with North Korea. In the end, Rodman hasn’t done anything wrong by being friends with Kim Jong Un. Keeping that information from the U.S. was his own choice.
