When people think of 707 horsepower, they think of a Lamborghini Murcielago or Ferrari Enzo. Some may say this much horsepower is only available in high end super cars, but Dodge begs to differ with its all new 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. This monster, dubbed the Hellcat, has the power to unleash 707 horsepower from it’s 6.2 liter supercharged HEMI V-8. Not only is it the most powerful 4-door sedan, but it’s the fastest with an 11.0 second quarter-mile time and top speed of 204 mph.
Dodge has redesigned all of its Chargers for the 2015 year ranging from the 292 hp V-6 Charger which costs $27,995 to the 485 hp V-8 that costs $47,385. But the $64,990 Hellcat far surpasses all other Charger models with its whopping 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft torque.
When designing the new Charger, Dodge wanted to make it stand out from its Challenger Hellcat, which is the world’s fastest production muscle car. “’The philosophy is a little bit different,’” said Russ Ruedisueli, head of engineering for SRT when interviewed by CarAndDriver.com. “’On the Challenger, we wanted the car to be sprung a little bit stiffer, there to be a little less roll. On the Charger, there’s more of an emphasis on ride. It’s not to say that you’ll be embarrassed out on the track, you know, but it’s not a ‘track car.’” The springs and shocks on the Charger are much softer than that off the Challenger. Another difference is the amount of slip allowed by the traction control is much smaller than the Challenger’s.
Just to put it in perspective of how much air the supercharger uses at a time, it can suck in the air from a 10 foot by 13 foot room in under a minute. The supercharger just takes 80 horsepower to run the beast.
The new interior on the Charger boasts a T-handle to control the Hellcat’s eight speed automatic transmission. The middle entertainment touch screen allows the driver to change a number of options. The driver can switch the Hellcat between Street, Sport, and Tack modes with the touch of a button.
The Charger also comes with two keys: a red key and a black key. The black key holds the Charger back and only gives it 4,000 rpm and 500 horsepower. The red key, however, unleashes the full 707 monster that is the Hellcat.
